Airfield Security Lighting, Afghanistan
Inglett & Stubbs International was tasked in 2007 with improving the perimeter security lighting at an undisclosed military base in Afghanistan. Our engineers went to work and ISI came up with a solution once again stressing costs, functionality and reliability. ISI procured 1,000 watt metal-halide stadium-style lighting fixtures for the job. Once the materials were in-theater, the installation process began. ISI’s design is to install four (4) of the 1,000 watt fixtures on a single concrete pole at approximately 15 meters above the ground. Poles are placed approximately 150 linear feet apart, fed with overhead feeders and the controllers for each pole are located on that pole. Having individual controllers for each poll limits the outage of lighting to a single pole in the event a controller is damaged or fails. This design provides daylight light levels at the perimeter of the base during the nighttime hours giving our Military the ability to see a greater distance past the perimeter and these bright lights also deter the enemy from coming to the perimeter.
